Colors

In the winter, cool colors will help bring that wintry vibe inside. You don’t need to change the colors of your walls to make the most of cool colors. Changes as simple as switching your throw pillows and lap blankets can have a big impact. Also, swap out your accessories to bring in even more of these colors. Vases, candy dishes and flower arrangements can be changed quickly and easily, and will help to transform your room as the seasons change.

Artwork

Many people opt to change their artwork seasonally as well. Choosing to do this doesn’t have to be a budget buster. There are many retail and online stores that sell paintings, prints, mirrors, hanging candle holders and metal wall hangings all at very reasonable prices. Store the off season in a closet or climate controlled attic, and you’ll get years of enjoyment for your investment.

Other Special Touches

Winter is such a fun time to decorate, because the season itself is so beautiful: Snow covered hills, treetops kissed with ice, getting ready to start melting at the first morning light. Even if you live in a place where snow and ice are rarities, you can still incorporate these elements into your decorating.

• If you use artificial flowers for your arrangements, purchase some stems that appear to be covered with frost or snow. Work these pieces into arrangements throughout your home.

• Fill glass jars of various sizes with artificial snow and arrange them throughout your home. On your porch, do the same with large jars and stick a barren branch in each of them to create lovely decorations for your porch or walkway.

• Nestle some white lights into the greenery around the inside of your home.

Holidays

Of course, in the middle of winter decorating, you will also need to consider holiday decorating. Some people make the mistake of thinking that all winter décor must be holiday oriented. That isn’t true, and focusing on decorating for winter instead of the holidays will allow your decorations to last longer. While most people like to take down holiday themed décor (such as trees, garland, wreaths and bows) decorations with a winter theme, such as those described above, can last all the way until February or early March.

Whether you go all out or opt for just a few special winter touches, you are sure to add an extra measure of warmth to your home, even when it’s cold outside! _______________________________________________________________
